The Writer's Portfolio: A Quick Overview

The class of 2015 when they were sophomores

Introduction:  Greetings and welcome to our new online Writer's Portfolio!  This is the second year of paperless portfolios!  By making the switch to E-Portfolios, you will help lessen the impact on the environment, be able to show off your hard work to all your friends and family, and have a permanent place to save and showcase your best work.  Congratulations!

The goal of the Writer’s Portfolio is to ensure every student at Six Rivers develops the writing skills necessary to be successful in post high school education.  All the final versions of essays will be revised and saved in an internet based Electronic Portfolio.  The appearance of the portfolio should be professional.  However, it should also reflect your personality, creativity, and your positive work ethic.

Essay Selection:  You should choose the best essays you have written at Six Rivers Charter High School or you ones that you wrote at another high school (if you have transferred).   I suggest you use your two best essays for the first two submissions.  Your third choice can be any writing sample as long as it is prose (not poetry).

Writer's Portfolio Checklist--Your portfolio must contain the following information:

1. Home Page

2. Personal Statement

4. Essay #1: First Choice Essay
ü  Revised Final Draft of Essay in MLA format

5. Essay #2: Second Choice Essay
ü  Revised Final Draft of Essay in MLA format

6. Writing Sample #3
ü  Any in-class movie essays, English, History, Science, or Math essays or reports. Also, any of your own creative writing or anything written this year that shows the best of your writing talent.
ü  Typed revised version of “Writing Sample” in proper MLA Format.

Good luck, work hard, and have fun creating and presenting your writing talent and ability to create a online platform to showcase your hard work!
