Directions: Hello! Congratulations on taking the first step towards creating your own online Writer's Portfolio! First you must decide which application you would like to use to create your site--either blogger or Google Sites. From there your first step will be creating your homepage. Both blogger and sites are extremely user friendly. Your instructor will demonstrate how to build a site in your study skills class. To better understand your chosen program, I recommend using the help menu which has links to tutorials that explain how to navigate the site and the webpage design process. Don't just quickly post the minimal required content and forget about it! Take some time to play with and learn the program. Both blogger and sites have many different design options and plenty of apps to customize your portfolio. Here are a few tips for your home page and the whole site in general.
Paragraph 1: Introduce yourself; include your age, school, hobbies, family life and/or any info you’d like the portfolio committee or other readers to know about you.
Paragraph 2: Explain how you view your own writing skills. What are your strengths? Have you improved this year? What have you learned through this portfolio process?
Paragraph 3 (resubmit): If you are resubmitting, explain your growth as a writer since last year. What have you learned? Be specific.
Paragraph 4: What aspects of writing do you need to work on in the future? What writing skills will you need to master in high school to prepare for college, trade or tech school, or a career? Any goals yo would like to share? Do you see yourself using writing skills in your future?

- Make sure your welcome/opening statement answers the who, what, when, where, why, and how of the portfolio process. Revise until it is clear, thorough, and error free.
- Beware of fancy backgrounds, colors, video, etc. Your site should be distraction free, yet creative and original. It should be easy to navigate. If a reader can't see your text because of background and/or color choices, well.....than it can't be read! Don't get too crazy!
- Don't just make a post, save it, and turn off your computer. You are not done. Check formatting, sizing, links, colors, pics, etc. Make sure everything works in real time. Revise until you are pleased with your site. Your work reflects directly on you.
- Ask for help.
- All pictures, text, titles, backgrounds, etc., must be school appropriate.
- Site must be password protected. You must invite readers.
Once you have completed your home page, you will follow a similar process for subsequent pages. Each of the following required pages must be accessible from your homepage (a link). Your final completed portfolio must have all of the following elements or it will not be graded (automatic resubmit). Once again, spend some time on this project and make sure each page works, is complete, and easy to read.
Requirements--Your Online Portfolio Must Have the Following Pages:
1. Platform Home Page: Your home page
should welcome your reader and briefly explain the portfolio process, the content of your site, and how to explore/navigate it. You should include the following information: Your name, class, teacher, school year, and the title of the assignment. You should also briefly introduce yourself, but keep it short--one or two sentences. The Personal Statement will be more detailed and complete. You must have a linked list to the rest of the pages on your site. You can include a pictures, apps, images, artwork, etc., as long as they are school appropriate.
2. Personal Statement: You will be writing an approximately one page personal statement that introduces yourself to your audience as a person and as a writer. Detailed requirements can be found below. Your personal statement must still be in MLA format, error free, clear, and easy to read.
